Geological Noise | Filters | Discrimination | UXO Depth Warranties | Ultra-High Definition | Services

G-tek has over 20 years’ experience in the processing of data from magnetic surveys in:

  • UXO-detection
  • Minerals exploration, and
  • Sub-surface mapping of:
    • Environmental issues
      • Underground storage tanks
      • Landfill extents
      • Buried pipes
      • Sub-surface drainage patterns
    • Heritage and museum objects
      • Ancient kilns, camp-sites and burial pits
      • Cultural memorabilia
    • Geotechnical properties
      • Highways and large buildings

G-tek also has extensive experience in processing:

  • Electromagnetic data for UXO-detection and discrimination;
  • Multiple parameter data

G-tek can provide data processing services for survey data – whether from G-tek’s surveys or other sources.

Magnetometers, especially, often detect variations in local geology as possible objects. In the past, this has led to magnetic surveys for UXO producing a number of false alarms, leaving them behind electromagnetic surveys as a preferred technology. However, advances in data processing pioneered by G-tek significantly reduce or even eliminate false alarms from geology in all but the most intrusive areas of geological noise.

Electromagnetic detectors also can experience major problems where geological interference becomes a significant background noise in areas of highly mineralised soils and large areas of basalt. G-tek uses techniques for blocking this noise source, reducing or eliminating it as a problem in UXO detection.

G-tek is able to choose an appropriate combination of technologies and data processing to achieve optimal results for any site.

When a signal is detected, it is compared with the calculated response from a table of dimensions covering each of the items likely to be present.
These items are assessed using sophisticated software to rank each target against its UXO potential.

This data processing discriminates UXO from geological noise and non-UXO items such as large fragments of explosive ordnance waste, shrapnel and cultural debris.

Over a 20-year period, G-tek has amassed an extensive knowledgebase of UXO response signals. This is a database of magnetic signals measured from a range of UXO in a number of countries, in various environments and with different orientations, degrees of damage and corrosion.

With such a knowledgebase, G-tek is in a unique position to quantify with a known probability the depth to which each type of UXO can be detected in any geological conditions.

Defensible detection depth warranties are the key to being able to specify safe future land use.

G-tek is a world-leading specialist in the use of “ultra-high-definition” geophysics, and utilises equipment that has been designed to produce definitive results from ground-based surveys.

These designs include:

  • Ergonomic equipment to optimise productivity productivity in the most difficult terrains and most hostile environments;
  • Fast sample rates that can be set to achieve the best possible results under any conditions and survey speed;
  • Very high noise rejection and exceptional signal to noise ratios, producing very high resolution and data quality;
  • Integrated positioning systems (including DGPS) to ensure the highest possible accuracy in positioning each measurement and
  • Techniques and methodologies designed to ensure that no areas are missed in the survey and there is little or no overlap in measurements.

The qualities of the equipment are paired with the most sophisticated data processing techniques to achieve outstanding definition, unmatched in the international geophysics industry.

G-tek’s data processing services are globally cost-competitive. The Internet, plus rapid transport of CD-ROM, allows G-tek’s professional geoscientists to quickly process data from virtually anywhere in the world. A geoscientist working on a mining project in the deserts of Australia can provide on-line assistance and data-processing support to a colleague handling UXO data in other regions as remote as the mountains of Montana.

G-tek prides itself in providing the highest level of data processing services and will produce data in virtually any format – from detailed maps to on-line GIS systems.
